Medusa
Medusa was one of the most beautiful women in all
of Greece. She was a temple virgin of Aphrodite; but the hapless maid
was seduced by the god Apollo and gave in to his amorous advances while
performing her duties in Aphrodite's temple. For her impropriety the
angry goddess cursed her so that she became a gorgon so hideous that
should anyone look upon her they would be turned into stone forever.
